This examination is used to examine small nerve fibers that are not accessible to the ENG examination. These are special nerve fibers responsible for automatic internal processes within the body (heart function, breathing, temperature, digestion, sweat production etc.).
The Sudoscan measures the conductivity of the skin, on which the production of sweat depends. This in turn depends on the function of small nerve fibers. The conductivity of the skin can therefore be used to indirectly test the function of small nerve fibers. This can be disturbed, for example, in the context of polyneuropathy (due to diabetes or as a side effect of chemotherapy), in certain Parkinson’s syndromes or other rarer diseases.
